Dr. Jay Hannigan received his BSc(H) in Life Sciences at Queen’s University. He travelled abroad to Ireland where he obtained his MD at Trinity College Dublin. He completed his residency in Family Medicine and his CCFP Emergency Residency training at Dalhousie University in Halifax.

Academic EM Interests

Dr. Hannigan has an interest in Emergency Department Ultrasound, a remarkable tool that has gained wide acceptance in many areas of emergency care. He is a qualified emergency ultrasound instructor and EDUS program assistant, who is interested in facilitating the development of a sustainable EDUS program.

Jay is interested in improving patient outcomes and is an ATLS instructor.


Jay enjoys outdoor recreation, spending quality time in the backcountry. He is a musician, who likes to play guitar. He also loves to read a good book.
